Children's Privacy Notice
What ReadPals collects about children, why, and the choices parents have.
Effective: October 3, 2026 · Last updated: October 3, 2026 · Version: 2026-10-03
ReadPalshelps young children learn to read. Because the readers are children, a parent or legal guardian who is 18 or older must create the account and agree before we collect anything about a child. This notice is also emailed to you, under the subject “Your child’s privacy”, right after you create your account.
Who we are
ReadPals is owned and operated by Relay HQ LLC, c/o Republic Registered Agent Services Inc., 8206 Louisiana Blvd NE, Suite A, Albuquerque, NM 87113, United States. Email: hello@readpals.com.
Your consent comes first
We collected your email address from you so you can sign in and so we can ask for your consent and send you this notice. We do not collect, use, or disclose any personal information from or about a child unless you give consent. You give it by checking this line when you create your account:
I'm 18+, a parent or guardian, and agree to the Terms, Privacy Policy and Children's Privacy Notice for any child I add.
Your consent covers every reader (child profile) you add to your account. You will not be asked again each time you add a reader, and we will not email you again when you do.
If you do not check the line, we do not create an account and do not collect any information about a child. The sign-in link or code we emailed you expires after 15 minutes and works once.
What we collect about children, and why
- A name or nickname for each reader you add, so a reader can find their own lessons. A nickname is fine.
- What a reader does in lessons and games: the activities played, answers, and progress. We use this to choose what to practice next and to show you how your reader is doing.
- Short voice recordings. Some activities ask a reader to say a sound, word, or sentence out loud, and only after microphone access is allowed on the device. We record that short spoken answer to check it and give feedback. The result, such as whether a word was read correctly, becomes part of the reader’s progress.
- Device and diagnostic information, such as device and browser type and error reports, to keep ReadPals working and secure. Error reports do not include names, email addresses, or what a reader typed or said.
Children are never asked for an email address, a phone number, or other contact information, and ReadPals has no chat, public profiles, or other way for a child to make information public.
Service providers that help run ReadPals
We share children’s information only with service providers that help us run ReadPals. They may use it only to provide their service to us and must protect it:
- Hosting, storage, and security (for example, Cloudflare).
- Speech assessment (currently SpeechSuper), which scores a spoken answer and returns the result to us.
- Email delivery (for example, Resend), which sends sign-in links and account email to you, never to a child.
- Product analytics (currently PostHog), which receives counts of how ReadPals is used under a random-looking identifier, without names, email addresses, voice recordings, answers, or free text.
We do not disclose children’s information to any other company for its own purposes. If we ever wanted to, we would first ask for your separate consent, and you could say no and keep using ReadPals.
No selling, no advertising
ReadPalsshows no advertising. We do not sell or rent children’s information, use it for targeted advertising, or build advertising profiles.
How long we keep it
- Voice recordings: up to 14 days, then deleted.
- Reader names, answers, and progress: while your account is active, and no longer than 10 years after its last activity, unless you delete the reader or the account sooner.
- Server, diagnostic, and security logs, including error reports: up to 35 days. Records kept to investigate a specific security incident may be kept for up to two years after the investigation closes.
- Backups that still hold deleted information: up to 14 days after deletion.
- Product analytics counts held by our analytics provider under a random-looking identifier: up to 7 years. Once an account is deleted, these records can no longer be connected to any person.
- Messages you send us about your child: up to two years after we resolve the request.
- Legal, fraud-prevention, and safety records: up to 10 years after the related matter closes, when keeping them is reasonably necessary.
- De-identified and combined (aggregated) information: up to 10 years after it is de-identified.
- Information kept on the device, such as progress, answers, and settings: until it is cleared, for example by clearing the browser’s site data or removing the app. We cannot see or delete information that has stayed on a device.
When you delete an account, we delete or de-identify its information, subject only to the log, backup, legal, fraud-prevention, and safety periods listed above.
Your rights, and how to withdraw consent
- Review:see each reader’s progress in the app under Grown-ups, or email us for a copy of what we hold about your child.
- Delete a reader:in the app, open Grown-ups, then the reader’s settings.
- Withdraw consent and delete everything: delete your account at app.readpals.com/grown-ups/app-settings (Grown-ups, then App Settings), or email hello@readpals.com. We then stop collecting and delete your readers’ information.
- Refuse further collection of voice recordings at any time by turning off microphone access for ReadPals on the device.
Changes to this notice
We may update this notice to explain our practices more clearly, to name another service provider that does the same kind of work as one listed here, or to reflect changes in law. We post each version here with its effective date and keep earlier versions available. These updates do not change what we collect from children or how we use or share it, and they do not need your consent again.
If we ever want to collect a new kind of information from a child, use children’s information for a new purpose, or share it with anyone other than the kinds of service providers described here, we will email you before it happens and ask for your consent to that change first. Until you say yes, we will not start.
More detail
This notice stands on its own for children’s information, so changes to our Privacy Policy do not change it. The Privacy Policy covers ReadPalsmore broadly, including practices that do not involve children. Questions about a child’s information can be sent to hello@readpals.com.
